#GRASSLANDSARENOTWASTELANDS

Grasslands are undoubtedly the most neglected among all the ecosystems in India. Most grassland in India is categorized as 'wasteland' in government records. This has seriously compromised the existence of various species dependent on the grasslands such the Great Indian Bustard, Lesser florican, Wolf and Chinkara among many others. TCF’s online campaign 'Grasslands Are Not Wastelands' is the need of the hour and needs to reach our policy makers urgently! TCF has found support for its online campaign in excellent organizations like Wildlife Conservation Trust and invites you to do the same – share, use and follow the hashtag #grasslandsarenotwastelands

To join this campaign, send us a short video you have made in support of this campaign on grasslands2017@gmail.com
Your video will be shared on this platform with your consent.

TCF PARTICIPATES IN A LESSER FLORICAN SURVEY

Between July and September 2017, TCF joined forces with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) to conduct a national-level Lesser florican survey in the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. India once hosted the Lesser florican vastly, but now ill affords this endemic species its habitat due to the loss of grassland habitat.

WORLD RHINO DAY 2017

A colourful open-air event with 64 students from 10 schools in the Kaziranga landscape marked the celebration of World Rhino Day with TCF and Kaziranga National Park (KNP) on September 22, 2017.The occasion was graced by the attendance of Dr. Satyendra Singh, IFS (Director, KNP), Mr Rohini Ballave Saikia, IFS ( DFO, KNP), Mr. Ajay Das(ACF, KNP) , Dr. Naveen Pandey (Dy. ADDRESSING HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT AT KAZIRANGA

TCF distributed solar lights to seven families in Goshanibor village, that has recently become vulnerable to human-wildlife conflict, exacerbated by the absence of electricity. Only recently, a woman resident of a Goshanibor barely survived an attack by a tiger that entered her unelectrified house in the middle of the night, attempting to drag her out.

Illumination through solar electrification in such villages could address the severe human-wildlife conflict situation prevalent in these rural communities and will go a long way in encouraging and enabling community-based conservation.

HUMAN-SLOTH BEAR CONFLICT IN THE KANHA-PENCH CORRIDOR - PROJECT REPORT

The Kanha-Pench corridor (KPC), a crucial landscape connecting Kanha and Pench Tiger Reserves is where TCF conducted a study of the factors influencing human-sloth bear conflict here. The detailed study report describes sloth bear occupancy in the corridor, habitat composition, the anthropogenic pressures in the region and the characteristics of the encounters that resulted in human casualties. CONSERVATION AWARENESS IN MANIPUR

Tamenglong District in Manipur is an area rich in biodiversity. It is also a region with a crying need for conservation awareness among the local community. Together with members of the Rainforest Club in Manipur, TCF has begun conservation awareness initiatives in Dailong and Chingkao – remote villages in the hills here, in a bid to sensitize the local community to the conservation need of their natural heritage.
