TCF AND SAHYADRI TIGER RESERVE FOR CONSERVATION EDUCATION

The Corbett Foundation and Sahyadri Tiger Reserve (Maharashtra) have together embarked on a brand new Conservation Education Project. Local urban as well rural awareness programmes for school students by way of nature trails, treks and interactive sessions with TCF’s resource persons are at the heart of this programme, along with sensitizing and mobilizing the rural forest-dwelling population to the conservation of STR’s important biodiversity.

The debut event saw 30 children from 3 local schools participating in nature trails, interactive quizzes and games.

NDTV FEATURES SUCCESS STORIES FROM USHA SILAI SCHOOL PROJECT!

NDTV Kushalta Ke Kadam has featured the success stories of 2 women who have started their own ‘USHA Silai Schools’ at Kanha Tiger Reserve. TCF is collaborating with USHA International on this sustainable livelihood programme for the women around Kanha Tiger Reserve. This short film documents the struggles of Phuliya Bai and Rekha Rahangdale from Kanha, and how this programme has been instrumental in bettering their lives and those of their community. TFC AT A NATIONAL SEMINAR ON BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION

The Corbett Foundation was an organizing partner in a two-day National Seminar on Biodiversity Conservation by the Kaziranga Study Centre, J.D.S.G. College in association with Kaziranga National Park and other conservation NGOs, held on 29th and 30th June 2017. The seminar was inaugurated by esteemed guests and chairpersons, including TCF’s Dr. Naveen Pandey. Dr. Satyendra Singh, Director, Kaziranga National Park spoke about climate change and global warming with regard to biodiversity and its conservation. After a keynote presentation by former professor of Guwahati University Prof. P. C. Bhattacharjee, the technical sessions commenced, during which presentations were made on biodiversity conservation as well as on relevant subjects like flood control, particulate matter, butterflies as pollinators and indicators of a healthy environment and such.

A PEAFOWL IN KUTCH IS THE LATEST VICTIM OF THE STRAY DOG MENACE

A peafowl was brought to TCF's campus at Kutch after it was brutally attacked by a pack of stray dogs. The bird suffered severe damage to its wings and nearly all its ornamental feathers were torn out. TCF's livestock inspector promptly administered treatement to the injured bird. Stray dogs in and around wildlife habitat are increasingly endangering all manner of wildlife in India.

TURTLE CONSERVATION WORKSHOP AT CORBETT TIGER RESERVE

HABITAT IMPROVEMENT IN THE CORBETT LANDSCAPE

TCF conducted a two-day workshop on turtle conservation for 70 Forest Officials at Bijrani Forest Rest House at Corbett Tiger Reserve. The workshop comprised lectures on survey methodologies, finding turtles and turtle identification and were presented by TCF's resource persons. TCF conducts similar capacity building workshop throughout the year across divisions.



TCF Corbett has extended habitat enhancement interventions to civil and revenue land as well, where local communities previously practiced agriculture. Abandoned by villagers for a period of time, patches of land in 3 villages are overrun with the invasive weed Lantana. Here, TCF’s team will strategically plant native tree species here to reduce soil erosion, improve water retention and enable the sustainable harvesting of species for fodder and firewood

INTERNATIONAL BIODIVERSITY DAY & WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY WITH TCF

On International Biodiversity Day in May and World Environment Day in June, TCF engaged local school children and adult community members across its divisions in a variety of awareness programmes and activities – TCF Kanha conducted a ‘Clean Banjar’ river clean-up campaign; TCF Bandhavgarh explained the importance of biodiversity and its conservation to school students from Mala village at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve's Interpretation Centre; TCF Kaziranga took out rallies and marches with school kids and planted saplings in school compounds;TCF Corbett explained the hazards of forest fires to local kids.
