TCF BEGINS WILDLIFE AND HABITAT STUDY AT BANDHAVGARH
The Corbett Foundation has begun a two-year study on the dispersal routes, habitat and status of tigers and other wild species in the buffer zone of Bandhavgarh tiger reserve. The buffer zone is crucial forest habitat, protecting the core zone from anthropogenic pressures and providing forest cover for spill-over tigers from the core zone and animals on the move to establish territory and avoid competing for resources. Collection and study of such data enables the development of customized and sound management strategies for long term tiger and wildlife conservation in Bandhavgarh. The study has revealed promising details so far, and has to its credit, the first report of the Asiatic Wild Cat Felis silvestris in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve!
GIB AWARENESS - BUY ONE, DONATE ONE
TCF began a campaign to spread awareness about conserving the Great Indian Bustard among the general
public as well as children in rural Kutch. Soon after the release of the educational-cum-fun board game 'GIB My Friend' and GIB pocket notepads, TCF announced the donation of one game set and notepad to a child in rural Kutch on behalf of a customer for every game set they purchased through TCF. The game has seen many purchases and as many smiling school children whose photogrpahs are up on TCF's Facebook page along with donor details. Visit our

MELOXICAM DISTRIBUTION AT KUTCH

This month, KERC, TCF’s arm at Kutch distributed 180 vials of ‘safe drug’ meloxicam to local Livestock Inspectors (LIs) in Mandvi, Lakhpat, Nakhatrana and Abdasa talukas in Kutch for the veterinary treatment of cattle. In an effort to minimize the fatalities of the scant remaining vulture population in Kutch, Gujarat from the use of NSAID (Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug) diclofenac, TCF Kutch has been distributing ‪‎meloxicam‬, a safe substitute to ‪diclofenac‬, to veterinary care-givers and paravets over the last two years. ‪‎KERC‬ has been working with more than 25 Livestock Inspectors who attend to livestock in around 70 villages in the talukas mentioned above.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2016
The Corbett Foundation celebrated World Environment Day 2016 with the stakeholders of protected forests areas across its divisions. Local communities were enlightened about the origins of this day and why it is celebrated. School children, village youth and men and women participated in clean-up drives, plantations and awareness discussions, with conservation issues and solutions specific to each division being discussed.
TCF KAZIRANGA SALUTES FOREST SENTINELS

To celebrate World Environment Day, TCF Kaziranga began an awareness and conservation engagement campaign 'Saluting Sentinels' to engage school students in the appreciation of forest guards and field staff who protect Kaziranga National Park from threats to its wildlife and habitat. Traditional schools, Art Schools, Music Schools and freelance community members were also encouraged to draw. Participating individuals created 50 greeting cards with paintings, sketches, slogans and messages, thanking the ‘Sentinels’ of the wild for protecting the environment and presented them to the beaming forest staff at Kaziranga National Park!

SOLAR - POWERED LIGHTS FOR FOREST-DWELLING COMMUNITIES

TCF distributed solar-powered lights to 40 families of Belegaon village situated close to the core zone of Kanha Tiger Reserve. The population in this small village consists largely of Baiga tribes and is not connected to the electricity grid.TCF thanks Tejas Goculdas for making this happen, through his school, The Cathedral & John Connon School, Mumbai.

FIRST-AID TRAINING AT CORBETT

TCF's Medical Officer at Corbett demonstrates first-aid administration to field staff  in the North Zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve.

FODDER CULTIVATION - HYDROPONICS

The grasslands of Kutch, crucial habitat to the GIB and the forests of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, home to tigers and other wildlife face immense pressure and degradation from grazing cattle belonging to local communities. To reduce this pressure and complement fodder cultivation, TCF has installed Hydroponics machines at Bandhavgarh and Kutch, capable of producing 120 kilograms of fresh fodder daily; this facility will be available to select families on condition that they stall-feed their cattle instead of grazing them in grasslands or forests. This initiative in Bandhavgarh is supported by Friends of Conservation, UK and Exodus Travels, UK and in Kutch by the Bombay Gowrakshak Trust.
